God has a word for you through Psalm 139. It reveals the greatness and infinite wisdom of God; and shows us the complexity of human life. Psalm 139 has four truths that, if believed, will give you purpose driven life.
- God knows usPsalm 139:1 “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” The word “searched” pictures God like a detective. Tracking our everyday activities, studying us even when we think we are alone. This reveals to us that God knows our hearts, our fears, thoughts, motivations, dreams and frustrations. He knows our past, present and our future. He understands us. He notices what’s going on around us and inside us. That could sound scary, but we can rest knowing that He knows all about us, and He still loves us.
- God pursues usPsalm 139: 7 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” God will not let us run away. We are wanted by God. Over and over in the Bible we see this declared. We are called God’s beloved, chosen, dearly loved children. We are told that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. He loves you and me. We belong to Him because of faith in Christ Jesus, and we will never be separated again.
- God Himself made usPsalm 139:13-14 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” We are totally unique, fashioned with awe-inspiring skill by the Almighty. There is no one like us. He gave us personality, abilities, spiritual gifts and a particular purpose that sets us apart for Him. We are His precious creation, made in His likeness. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror, you have been hearing too much from this world, instead of from your Heavenly Father – the incredible Artisan who made you for Himself.
- God has plans just for usPsalm 139:16 “… all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” David says that the script for our life was already written by God. The Lord has carefully planned all the details that will fill our days, creating opportunities for His glory and our good. But God doesn’t just set the plan in motion and look the other way. His thoughts are on us constantly. He greets us each morning with fresh mercy and new opportunities, ready to go every hours with us. He loves our company. And He has specific plans that we alone can fulfill.
Let’s allow ourselves to hear His voice saying: “I am so glad you are my child. Take my hand. Let’s run this race called life together.”
